Big Betsy Bites It!

Some of you will have noticed that the Big Betsy website will be closing down at the end of the month. It hasn't been up long and it gives the best indication of the swell in Storm Bay. Emerson posts a photo of either Rebounds or Wedge along with his surf report each day.

The reason for going off line is that a number of people (presumably 'locals') didn't like other surfers getting access to this information so easily because it increased crowds at these spots. Hmmm, I don't know what to think. I really hate crowded surf - in fact I do everything I can to avoid it - so I sympathise a bit with these complaints (especially since I live on the hill behind rebounds), but on the other hand it reminds me a bit too much of the meat head localism that fucks even uncrowded surf.

Whether or not it increased crowds at these breaks is debatable, but either way, I think its a sad thing that a fellow surfer who provides us with info on what's happening at the beach gets put down for it.
